The Texas Panhandle Honor Flight- October 2008
The "National Honor Flight" is an organization committed to sending all WWII veterans to Washington,DC to experience the WWII Memorial built to honor their service and sacrifice. Nationally there are 3,000,000 such servivors, and the Texas Panhandle is the home to 2,500 - 3,000 of these brave men and women. Due to the senior age of these heroes coupled with the prediction that we are losing 1200 - 1500 of them daily, we are committed to do all within our power to make this dream a reality. The Panhandle effort will focus on both our WWII veterans and those veterans from any war that have a terminal illness; therefore, time is of the essence.
This presents a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle to demonstrate their pride in these heroes and their patriotism, and will make us proud to call this our home. Unfortunately, there is not an Honor Flight Chapter in this area, including New Mexico and Oklahoma. The nearest chapter is located in the Houston area. Therefore, America Supports You Texas would like to raise enough funds so that every veteran's trip can be fully funded. Our projected budget for this event is $105,000 to cover airfare, hotels and meals for 50 veterans to travel to Washington, DC for 3 days and 2 nights. All funds raised and donations received go to the veterans as the ASY team members are all volunteers. We desire to do this because it's the right thing to do for these heroes who would not be able to afford such a trip on their own.With your support and that of the Amarillo corporate business community and many military service organizations, we can achieve this goal.
